Stuyvesant High School is a public high school established and run by the New York City Department of Education to serve the needs of academically gifted students.

The School is part of the nine Specialized High Schools in New York being run by the Department of Education and it is specialized in SMT.

Stuyvesant over the years has constantly been ranked among the top schools in New York State and the nation. Stuyvesant currently has a total enrollment of over 3,000 students. And the Student-teacher ratio is pegged at 24:1.

New York State Education Law makes a written examination the only requirement for admission to 8 out of the nine Specialized High Schools.

Places are awarded to those students who earn the highest scores on the entrance exam, the Specialized High Schools Admission Test (SHSAT).

What Are Stuyvesant High School Admission Requirements?

Stuyvesant also offers many intriguing elective courses and a wide range of advanced placement courses that are needed by students to do well in society.

Of course, Stuyvesant also offers all the basic New York State required academic courses that each student needs for success in college and beyond. Enrichment courses are available in the Humanities.

What Are Stuyvesant High School admission requirements?

The list of Stuyvesant High School admission requirements includes;

  • You must be a resident of New York to be eligible for admission into Stuyvesant High School.
  • You must be ready to abide by all school rules.
  • You must be moving into the 8th and 9th grades to be eligible.
  • Applicants will need to take the Specialized High School Admission Test (SHSAT).
  • Applicants will be assigned to schools where they can take their entrance.
  • You must meet the school’s cutoff scores.

It is required that students/applicants take the exam at the assigned school. Applications for the exam and information about all the specialized high schools are available at all New York City schools serving eighth and ninth graders.

The SHSAT is usually administered in October and November. Students are notified of their acceptance into one of the specialized high schools the following Spring. So there you have the details of Stuyvesant High School admission requirements.
