Who are those involved in the vista high school assault?

According to reports, those involved are the football team members of the school’s football team. The event happened on or around August 31 inside the Vista High School varsity football locker room.

When the incident was first reported to law authorities on Friday, September 2, it was initially looked into as a sexual assault.

After law enforcement spoke with the 14-year-old victim, his mother, other students, and parents, the case was changed to a battery investigation.

It was noted that a  video was provided to investigators with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and showed the teenager being pushed to the ground by a group of other boys. The victim, however, was not injured in the incident.

An official media outlet was sent the footage by a parent, and it clearly depicts boys taunting a single kid. At one point, you can hear a bystander inquire as to whether the boy is being sexually attacked because it appears like one of the other boys is holding a heavy wooden stick.

The situation was initially brought to the attention of the freshman football coach before being brought to the attention of the Vista Unified School District superintendent two days later, according to Vista High School Principal David Gaffe.

On September 9, letters were sent to parents explaining the situation and detailing a quick safety action plan that includes counseling services and daily locker room surveillance by coaches and an administrator.

The freshman football coach has since been let go and FOX 5 was told the boys in the video have all been taken off the team pending the ongoing investigation.

All the males in the video aren’t on the squad, but they can still move around the campus, it was observed. The football players who had nothing to do with it are now receiving death threats and harassment on social media, according to one father, because of reports that 20 people raped one child.

Specifically, another mom who has a son on the football team says her child was not there during the incident and is worried for his safety and says he no longer wants to go to school or play football.

Separate from the investigation being carried out by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the Vista Unified School District is conducting its own internal inquiry.
